The Milk Makers

By Gail Gibbons

As with all of Gail Gibbons' books, she depicts agriculture accurately in the text. This is one of her weaker books from an illustration standpoint. The book describes the five common breeds of dairy cattle, other animals that give milk humans consume, feeds cattle eat, the digestion process, the milking process, how milking machines work, quality control, the basics of milk transportation and processing, pasteurization, homogenization, retailing and consumption. The book ends with an illustrated glossary of terms and dairy products.
