This book was also written by Peggy Thomas and focuses on former President George Washington’s roles as farmer, inventor and scientist. Washington wanted to make his home in Mount Vernon self-sufficient and invented a combination plow-tiller-harrow to make farming more efficient. His desire to make Mount Vernon more self-sufficient carried over to his goal to make his new country, the United States, more independent.
