The Secrets of Blueberries, Brothers, Moose & Me

By Sara Nickerson

Missy and her brother Patrick are looking for ways to make money over the summer when they find an ad for blueberry pickers in a local newspaper. After convincing their mother that they are able to do the work, they soon learn that outside farm work can be hard work! Patrick enjoys meeting new friends there, but Missy soon identifies with the actual love of the plants themselves as she learns the many steps that foods go through from plant to table. This is a good middle-age fiction chapter book, and it includes references to food production in a way that students can understand. It provides agricultural facts for readers who prefer fiction over non-fiction.
