A Field of Sunflowers

By Neil Johnson

High-quality photographs depict the process of growing sunflowers from preparing the soil through seed production. The book explains phototropism, pollination, and pollinators accurately and would be an excellent resource for teachers explaining these concepts. The community delight in the field of sunflowers and resulting interaction helps readers or listeners appreciate agriculture. The book is a bit less realistic in explaining that the farmer decided not to harvest the field but to leave it to feed the wild birds. Few farmers could afford that luxury.
